Dressing classy on a budget

Dressing classy, when you are on a very tight budget, can be a challenge. However, it is possible to stick to a tight budget and dress like you have an unlimited budget. Just follow a few simple rules and you will look like a wealthy person without emptying your bank account.

1. Stick to one color

Choosing a monochromatic wardrobe is always a good choice to create a classic look. The little black dress is a great place to start but, don’t limit it to black. Choose neutral colors like beige, brown and navy blue and then dress the outfit up with accessories like scarves and simple classic pieces of jewelry. Dark colors work well with all occasions and shoes are always easy to match. Also, an added bonus is that dark colors tend to make most people look thinner.

2. Quality counts
Always opt to purchase a piece of clothing that is well made with quality fabric. Buy something that will last. A good place to find affordable, quality garments is at resale shops and outlet stores. Think of it as a shopping treasure hunt. You will be amazed at what you will find when you search these stores. In most cases, resale shops carry name brand designers which they are either selling on consignment or outright at as much as ninety percent from the original retail price.

3. Avoid trends
When shopping, invest in high-quality classic pieces of clothing that never go out of style. Rather than going for trends, dress classic pieces up with trendy accessories.
4. Accessorize
Buy a variety of accessories like scarves and jewelry. Chunky bangles and necklaces will change the look of an outfit very quickly. Invest in quality scarves and learn to wrap and tie them to achieve a variety of classy looks. When out shopping, look for good buys on accessories at your local department store and outlet mall.

5. Spend money on a great purse
Don’t make it a goal to have a closet full of purses. Rather, find a classic name brand purse that will last a long time and invest in it. Think of the purse as an investment piece and, like clothing, spend money on something you really like because you will be using it for a long time.

6. Invest in good shoe
Spend money on a pair of good shoes in neutral colors including black, blue, brown and beige. Invest in shoes that will last a long time. Pay to have the heels replaced and purchase real leather.

It is possible to dress classy, no matter how tight your budget may be. Invest in your clothing. Take care to find clothes which are good quality and that will last. Spend time searching for those great buys and you will have a quality wardrobe that looks like a million dollars!
